Serial port
Use the serial port actions to conduct internal loopback testing on a maximum
of 10 serial ports. These tests place the serial port in an internal loopback
mode so that the values written to the port can be read back. The serial port
actions also indicate whether the registers contain valid values.
Prerequisites for performing actions on the serial port
To perform actions on the serial port, a loopback adapter must be installed.
Actions
Use the following actions to diagnose the serial port:
- Perform External Registers Test
Performs an external loopback action on the serial port register. This test
also indicates whether the registers contain valid values.
- Perform External Send/Receive Test
Writes 256 characters to the port at various baud rates and then reads the
characters back to compare the characters as they loop through the loopback
adapter.
- Perform Internal Registers Test
Performs an internal loopback action on the serial port register. This test
also indicates whether the registers contain valid values.
- Perform Control Registers Test
Performs an internal loopback action on the serial port control signals. This
test also writes a set of patterns to the control registers and then reads
back the corresponding values through the internal loopbacks.
- Perform Internal Send and Receive Test
Writes data to the serial port at several baud rates and reads the data back
through the internal loopback for comparison. All errors are reported in the
action log.
Results
The Results field displays the results of the action and provides detailed
information for resolving issues. Use the documentation that comes with your
server for information about correcting a failed device.
