INSTALLING THE NVIDIA NFORCE SMBUS DRIVER (Standard Methods) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Before installing the NVIDIA driver software, close all open application programs and disable any anti-virus software running on your computer until the driver installation is complete! 3.1 Menu-Controlled Driver Installation ---------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start button in the task bar, select Run and then select "Setup.exe" from the hard drive or CD-ROM directory where the NVIDIA nForce SMBUS driver files are stored. 2. Click OK. The Welcome page of the NVIDIA nForce Driver Installation appears. the language of your operating system is not supported, the text appears in English. 3. Click Next to open the next page. 4. Select the "NVIDIA SMBUS Driver" option. This option is checked. 5. Click Next to start the installation process. When the process completes, the last page appears. 6. Select either the "Yes, want to restart my computer now.." or the "No, I want to restart my computer later..." 7. Select Finish. 8. To verify the devices that were installed, follow these steps: a. Open the Windows Device Manager window. b. Under "System devices", notice that the following items appear: > nForce4 Hyper Transport Bridge > nForce4 Low Pin Count Controller > PCI Bus > PCI Standard Host CPU Bridge > PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI Bridge 3.2 .INF file-based Driver Installation ----------------------------------------- Follow these steps on the IBM system: 1. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage. 2. From the window that opens, select Device Manager on the left panel menu. 3. On the menu list on the right, select the item "Other Devices" and then select the item "? PCI Memory Controller" 4. Double click this item to open the next window. 5. Click the Driver tab. 6. Click the Update Driver button. 7. From the Hardware Update Wizard window, click the option "No, not this time." 8. On the next page, click the option: "Install from a list of specified location" and click Next. 9. Select the option "Search for the best driver in these locations". 10. Select the option "Include this location for the search". 11. Click the Browse button and select the directory/folder where the SMBUS software is located. 12. Click Next to follow the remaining prompts until the wizard has completed. 13. To verify the devices that were installed, follow these steps: a. Open the Windows Device Manager window. b. Under "System devices", notice that the following items appear: > nForce4 Hyper Transport Bridge > nForce4 Low Pin Count Controller > PCI Bus > PCI Standard Host CPU Bridge > PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI Bridge 4.0 INSTALLING THE NVIDIA NFORCE SMBUS DRIVER (Unattended "Silent" Method) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Before installing the NVIDIA driver software, close all open application programs and disable any anti-virus software running on your computer until the driver installation is complete! 1. From the Windows taskbar, open a command prompt window by clicking Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. 2. Go to the directory that contains the NVIDIA device driver (e.g. C:\NVIDIA_DRVS) 3. Enter the following command: SETUP -k -s Basic Switches for nForce ========================= -k Does not restart the computer when the installation process has completed. -c Restarts the computer when the installation process has completed. -s Silent (unattended) installation --— no installation messages are displayed during the installation process. NOTE: This switch must always be the last item on the command line. EXAMPLES: ======== ** For a silent installation of the NVIDIA nForce SMBUS driver, the command looks like this: setup -s Advanced Switches for nForce ================================= WARNING!! ========= Using the switches listed below can result in undesirable side-effects. -i Turns off Welcome and Reboot dialog boxes and does not restart your computer when installation has completed. -nocheckforprevious Bypasses any checks for a previous driver version. 5. UNINSTALLING THE NVIDIA NFORCE SMBUS DRIVER ------------------------------------------------- 1. Open the Windows Control Panel. 2. Double-click the "Add or Remove Programs" item. 3. Double-click the "NVIDIA Driver" item. 4.
