The IBM DS4000 Storage Manager version 9.15 host software packages for Linux on Power are available for pSeries hosts running Redhat RHEL3 update 4 or update 5, RedHat4 update 1, and SLES 9 Service Pack 1. They are not available for installation on LoP pSeries hosts running the SLES 8 Linux operating system. The Storage Manager version 9.15 Client program for non- LoP operating systems like Microsoft Windows, AIX and non-LoP Linux must be installed in a non-LoP server for out-of-band management configuration of the DS4000 storage subsystems that are connected to LoP servers running SLES 8 Linux OSes. 2. For the IBM DS4000 Storage Manager version 9.15 Client limitations, refer to the appropriate operating system readme files. These readme files can be found in the operating system (LoP, WIN32, WS03_32bit, WS03_64bit, Linux, Linux_IA64 or AIX) directories on this CD. For the latest DS4000 readme files, publications, and released code, refer to the IBM TotalStorage™ Disk Storage Systems Technical Support web site. http://www.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/disk 3. Refer to the "IBM DS4000 Storage Manager Version 9 Installation and Support Guide for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Linux on POWER" publication located on the http://www.ibm.com/eserver/pSeries/linux IBM web site for the latest Linux for pSeries limitations and document updates. 4. The "modprobe" command is not supported with this release on RHEL3-u4 when the Linux RDAC driver is installed. Use "insmod" to remove and recover the device driver stack. On pSeries servers with more then 4 processors, using the modprobe command may result in a hung server. 5. The Storage Manager Linux RDAC driver does not have the functionality to detect when a LUN is removed from the server. This includes FLASH Copy LUN's. Error messages are reported to the /var/log/messages file until missing LUN is recognized. The work around at this time is to reboot the pSeries server. 6. Universal Access Luns should not be assigned to LUN ID 0, especially with RDAC's installed. Placing an Universal Access Lun at LUN id 0, may lead to loss of LUN recognition of next sequence LUN ids or partial list of Virtual Luns reported with the RDAC driver. 7. SAN Boot on RHEL3, with RDAC installed, is restricted to initial root installation on Fibre Channel LUN ID 0. In addition, SAN boot is not supported for JS20 blades with RHEL3 update 5 (RHELu5) in this release due to an error in writing the partition table (BZ 16838.) 8. JS20 blades must not have the following Fibre Channel Expansion card FRU number installed in certain JS20 blade model numbers. FRU number 13N2208 (or Option PN 13N2203) and JS20 8842-21X MT/MN are not compatible. This combination is not supported for Linux on Power releases. Possible intermittent problems are Fibre Channel Expansion card NVRAM corruption symptoms. (CMVC 279060.) 9. SAN Boot is not supported on IBM JS20 server blades with the initial release SLES9 kernel. The SAN Boot is only supported on JS20 server blades with SLES9 w/SP1 kernel installed. (6-3-2005) 10. HBA Hot-Swap command to remove a live, fully functioning HBA, will cause a system panic if the I/O is not diverted from that path first. This functionality is only supported on current 2.6 kernel versions. The work- around is to pull the Fibre Channel cable first, wait 2 - 5 minutes for fail-over to complete, then issue the "drslot_chrp_pci -r -s slot-number" command. 11. The QLogic fail-over driver for RedHAt4 update 1 is currently not supported on the JS20 blade servers. ======================================================================= 1.3 Enhancements ----------------- 1. The DS4000 Storage Manager version 9.15 host software for Linux operating systems supports the new version of controller firmware for the DS4800 storage subsystem models. With this version of firmware, the DS4800 controllers utilize all of the available data cache memory installed in each controller blade for I/O caching. Previously with controller firmware version 06.14.xx.xx, the DS4800 controllers used only the first 1G bytes of the installed data cache memory per controller for I/O caching. 2. Support Linux RDAC capability with SLES 9 SP1 (2.6 kernels) using the IBM DS4000 Storage Manager RDAC device driver version 9.01.B5.07. This is a different redundant failover/failback driver than the Emulex rdac/ device driver that is currently supported for LoP servers running SLES 8. 3. An SMIA installation wizard package that enables a GUI interface for installing the IBM DS4000 Storage Manager Package is now available for LoP RHEL 3, RHEL 4 (09/09/2005) and SLES 9 pSeries servers. 4. The following DS4000 Storage Manager host software packages - SMclient, SMutil, and SMagent packages are now supported on the LoP host servers with SLES 9 SP1, Redhat RHEL3 update 4 / update 5, and RedHat4 update 1 (09/09/2005). 5. Support Linux RDAC capability for LoP server with Redhat RHEL3 update 4 or 5 (RHEL3-u4 / RHEL3-u5) using the IBM DS4000 Storage Manager Linux RDAC driver version 9.00.A5.09. This is a different redundant failover/failback driver than the Emulex rdac/device driver that is currently supported for LoP servers running SLES 8. The IBM DS4000 Storage Manage RDAC driver version 9.00.A5.09 is only for LoP servers running RHEL3-u4. 6. Support Linux RDAC capability with RedHat4-u1 (09/09/2005) ======================================================================= 1.4 Prerequisites ------------------ For the IBM DS4000 Storage Manager version 9.15 Client prerequisites, refer to the appropriate operating system readme files.
