IBM Director eFix APAR IC33063 IBM Director Version 3.1 & 3.1.1 Installation README file CONTENTS ______________________________________________________________________ 1.0 Overview 2.0 Change History 3.0 Installation Instructions 4.0 Configuration Information 5.0 Unattended Mode 6.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Number 7.0 Trademarks and Notices 8.0 Disclaimer 1.0 Overview ______________________________________________________________________ 1.1 Issues addressed: IC33060: SNMP traps sent by Director Agent to CA UniCenter had variable bindings that were misinterpreted by UniCenter for Health and RAID objects. IC33061: The IDA SNMP Agent is slow to respond to SNMP GET when running on system with the onboard Advanced Systems Management Processor. SNMP Management applications performing the GET may timeout due to the slow response. Under CA UniCenter this may produce objects that show error for environment monitors. IC33087: On the IBM eServer XSeries 232 (M/T 8668) and 342 (M/T 8669) Alert On LAN does not function properly under IBM Director 3.1 or 3.1.1. This eFix disables the Alert On LAN agent. IC32848: The IBM Director 3.1 ServeRAID Server Extension will not create alerts if a Director Server has not "discovered" the Director Agent. To conserve resources in a stand alone mode, the Agent does not become fully active until it has been discovered by a Director Server. If the Director Agent is used in a stand alone configuration the ServeRAID Server Extension will not start and therefore not produce alerts. This eFix enables the ServeRAID Server Extension to autostart. IC33935: SNMP consumes large amounts of memory and WinMgmt has increased CPU usage on machines in a domain environments with Agent and SNMP installed. The Director Agent SNMP extension can provide several items of data from WMI. In domain environments, Win32_UserAccount and Win32_Group data comes from the domain, not the local system. In large domains with lots of users and groups, the SNMP agent will collect thse objects, thus the increased memory usage. In some cases, this can exceed 100+M. The activity also causes WinMgmt to increase CPU usage while the collection is occuring. This may appear as a memory leak, but it is not. The collection will eventually complete. During this time, SNMP traps or gets/walks may not be possible. To resolve the issue, Win32_UserAccount, Win32_Group, and Win32_Thread will no longer be collected from WMI or provided bt the Director Agent SNMP extension. IC35302: Director Agent fails to send SNMP traps during the first five minutes after starting. Any CIM indications that occurred will not be sent as traps during this time. Previous errors that occurred before SNMP was restarted will not be reported if they still exist. 1.2 Features/Support added: IC33063: The Director Agent SNMP agent only sends SNMP traps for Critical events. This build of the SNMP agent sends traps for all events types. IC33061: Two new OIDs were added to the SNMP Agent to determine if Director Agent and Health instrumentation is running. - AgentCheck 1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.159.0 - HealthCheck 1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.159.1.1.30.0 ResetPS.cmd to allow manual reset of Failure Power Supply Events.
