Supported Hardware: Netfinity 6000R and 7600 Servers. 1.4 Fuel Gauge events: Log Fuel Gauge events into the Netfinity Director environment. Supported Hardware: Netfinity 7100, 7600, 8500R Servers. 2.0 Installation notes ---------------------------- 2.1 Installing on Windows Prerequisites: Before installing IBM UM Server Extensions 2.12 Service Pack 1, you need to run the insfix.exe utility. This utility can be found in the root directory where you extracted IBMUMServerExtensions.exe. During the execution of insfix.exe, you are asked to provide a target directory for extracting files. Replace the default directory with X:\TivoliWg\ntextins, while X:\TivoliWg is the root directory you install Netfinity Director or Tivoli IT Director. As installation continues, you will be asked if you want to replace the existing files. Click 'Yes' to replace all existing files. To install IBM UM Server Extensions 2.12, Service Pack 1: 1). Click Start -> Programs -> IBM UM Server Extensions -> Add or upgrade IBM UM Server Extensions. 2). Click 'Next' at the Welcome window and the End User License warning window. 3). At the source file directory information window, type in the directory where you extracted IBMUMServerExtensions.exe. Click Next. 3). Select the tools you want to install. 2.2 Installing on NetWare In the directory where you extracted IBMUMServerExtensions.exe, run setup.exe in NetWare directory to install ServeRAID on NetWare. Please refer to the IBM UM Server Extensions User's Guide for more information on NetWare installation. 2.3 Installing on SCO UnixWare UnixWare install packages are stored in the \UNIX directory. For detailed information, please read the readme files inside the unix directory. 2.4 Software distribution A software distribution package, swdist.bfp, is available under the root directory of the extracted files. This package can be used to remotely install IBM UM Server Extensions 2.12 SP1 agents on Windows NT4, Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server machines. 3.0 Known problems and workarounds ---------------------------- 3.1 Software Distribution When you install the software distribution package on a remote machine, it sometimes returns a Complete status in your Director's console even though the installation failed. Before using the distribution package, ensure that the target machine is installed with the IBM UM Server Extension 2.12 agent only. 3.2 Chip Kill / Fuel Gauge events (polling characteristics) The user should be aware that events are gathered via a polling mechanism. This polling mechanism will forward events periodically at less then 5 minute intervals. This is not a real-time mechanism. At each poll, the state of the Chip Kill and Fuel Gauge environments, at that time only, are forwarded to the Director environment. 3.3 Fuel Gauge (Max Current events) The 'Loss of Redundancy' and 'Overall Current' events will be triggered when the maximum current exceeds certain thresholds. The current SP functionality doesn't reset these maximums and therefore the 'Regain of Redundancy' and 'Normal Current' events wont be triggered unless the user resets the Maximum Current event (for example, through the ASM component). 3.4 Chip Kill / Fuel Gauge (dependency on SP driver and firmware) Chip Kill and Fuel Gauge events do not work as designed when downlevel Advance Systems Management software drivers and firmware are installed. To check for the latest levels of driver and firmware support, see the IBM web site at: http://www.ibm.com/support Select the correct information (such as Server, Family, Machine Type, and Model). Select the 'Downloadable files' under Technical Information and select the 'Advanced Systems Management' category. From there, find the latest driver and firmware for your system. Follow the installation directions prior to using Chip Kill / Fuel Gauge. 3.5 Language Defaults to English(United States) Translations When the locale is not supported, the translation will default to the English (United States). ServeRaid and Advanced Systems Management are the only tools affected. The locale can be viewed by opening the Regional Setting icon located in the Control Panel folder. The following locales are supported for IBM UM Server Extensions 2.12 Service Pack 1: Chinese (Simplified) Chinese (Traditional) English (United States) French (Standard) German (Standard) Italian (Standard) Korean Japanese Spanish (Traditional Sort) 3.6 Advanced System Management (Modem installation) i) When installing modems using the Windows Modems application or Operating System installation program, the automatic detection of a modem often results in "Standard Modem", when in fact a more accurate modem type is available from the selection list. Selecting the modem type that corresponds to the actual type of modem installed will generally result in better modem performance. If your modem is not available in the selection list, it has not been certified for use with your Operating System. The "Standard Modem" selection may work in this case, or you can try choosing a similar (possibly slower) model from the same manufacturer. ii)The "Dial back" feature is not supported in this release. Consequently, the "Dial back" checkbox in the "Dial-in Settings" group of the "General Settings" dialog has no effect. iii)When using interconnect (RS485) connections via serial or TCP/IP, the remote connection will timeout after 10 minutes of no activity. Subsequent requests will be sent to the serial or TCP/IP connected service processor without any indication that the RS485 connection has been lost. This timeout can be prevented by leaving one of the operational parameters windows open, whose auto-refresh feature will keep the RS485 connection active. 3.7 ServeRAID Manager i) Console and Agent version incompatibilities When using the ServeRAID Manager task, the remote ServeRAID agent must be installed to the same version as the ServeRAID Manager task at the console. ii)The physical drive self test feature was not available for the final release. Ignore any references to this feature that appear in the ServeRAID Manager online help. 4.0 Other sources of information ---------------------------- Please refer to the IBM Universal Manageability, UM Server Extensions website at: http://www.ibm.com 5.0 Trademarks ---------------------------- The following terms are trademarks of the International Business Machines Corporation in the United States, or other countries, or both: IBM OS/2 Lotus Notes is a trademark of Lotus Development Corporation in the United States, or other countries, or both.
