H162440: LOST HARDWARE INTERRUPTS RUNNING NOVELL NETWARE 3.12 SYMPTOM: The NetWare Server Console displays the message - "Secondary Hardware Interrupt Controller detected a lost hardware Interrupt" Some examples include: when a Windows 95 Client try's to run applications from the Server, or when a large file copy occurs to or from the Server over the Network. PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: - All diagnostics pass. - There is a Adapter/Controller or a slot containing a Adapter /Controller assigned to Interrupt 15. ----OR---- The slot is set to Automatic. FIX: Eliminate use of Interrupt 15 by Adapters/Controllers. Depending on the Server, this may require allocating another Secondary Interrupt to a slot that was previously set to "automatic", or to a adapter / controller that was previously set to Interrupt 15, or reserve Interrupt 15 so that no devices will use it. NOTE: At this time, Only the PC Server 300 assigns one Interrupt to the entire PCI Bus. The latest Version BIOS for that server defaults the PCI Bus assignment to Interrupt 15. Refer to the users manual for the Server on information about Interrupt settings / assignments. Detail: This error may appear due to a load applied to any adapter that is using Interrupt 15. NetWare uses IRQ15 (Interrupt 15) to process lost Interrupts. In some situations, setting a Adapter / Controller to use IRQ15 will cause conflicts.
