H163143: NETFINITY 7000: FRONT PANEL DISPLAYS UNREADABLE CHARACTERS SYMPTOM: Incorrect or unreadable information is displayed on the Front Panel after replacing the System Planar Board. PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: All of the following must be true for this TIP to apply: - The System is a Netfinity 7000 Type 8651 Model RM0, RH0, TH0, TH0. - The Symptoms started to occur immediately AFTER replacing the System Planar board. - Other than the Symptom described above, the System functions normally. FIX: Replace the Control Panel Card with FRU P/N93H6052 using the following procedure: 1- Power down the Server, then remove the Power Cord. 2- Loosen the two thumbscrews located at the back of the top cover. 3- Remove the Top Cover by sliding the cover to the rear , then lift the front , then the rear. 4- Disconnect the 20 conductor ribbon cable from J7 of the Control Panel Board. 5- Remove the Two internal screws located at the top rear of the LED Card Bracket Assembly, then remove the LED Card Bracket Assembly (Refer to the IBM Netfinity Hardware Maintenance Manual Supplement P/N06J0791 page 102) 6- Disconnect the following cables from the Control Panel Board: - 2 conductor from J5 (to cover switch) - 26 conductor ribbon from J2 (to Power Backplane) - 40 conductor ribbon cable from J1 (to Planer) 7- Remove the 4 screws that secure the Control Panel Board to the chassis. 8- Replace the Control Panel Board using normal parts replacement procedures. 9- Reverse this procedure to complete the installation. DETAIL: The buffers used in the original Control Panel Card may cause the Front Panel to display unreadable / incorrect characters. This issue has no direct effect on the System's Server functions.
