This tip also applies to Netfinity 3000 Type 8476 systems. The following text, "System-Management Controller" (p. 44) is found in the "Using Your Personal Computer" booklet included with each system and addresses this feature: "SYSTEM-MANAGEMENT CONTROLLER Note: The following information is for some PC300PL only. Your computer is equipped with a system-management controller (LM80) integrated with the system board. This controller provides hardware monitoring for system-board temperatures, fan speed, power supply and processor voltages, and the detection of the removal of the computer cover (see Chassis-Intrusion Detector). Used with the DMI BIOS of the computer, the system-monitor controller can also store the hardware test results from the power-on self-test (POST)." End users, support personnel, and servicers should be aware that this is a normal operating feature of the system and does not indicate a hardware malfunction. NOTE: The cooling fan contained in the power supply is a variable 2-speed fan and should always be in operation.
