H164201: SERVERGUIDE: HARDWAREGUIDE HANGS SERVER WHEN > 1GB RAM SYMPTOM: - Booting the System to the Serverguide "HardwareGuide"(CD#1) results in the following message displayed on the screen: "Insufficient memory to initialize Windows" - After the error message (above) is displayed, the System Hangs. PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: - The System is any model of the following PC Server / Netfinity server properly configured with 1GB or more of supported memory: System Type ServerGuide Version ______________________________________________________________ PC Server 325 8639 4.0 - 4.0.3 PC Server 330 8640 4.0 - 4.0.3 Netfinity 7000 server 8651 4.0 - 4.0.3 - System Diagnostics Pass. - The Symptoms described occur when booting the System to the "HardwareGuide" (CD#1) contained in ServerGuide version(s) listed specific to the Server(s) in the list above. FIX: This issue has been fixed in ServerGuide version 4.0.4 and later which contains a "HardwareGuide" that supports the following Systems: PC Server 325 Type 8639 (PCI/ISA) PC Server 330 Type 8640 (PCI/ISA) Netfinity 3000 server Type 8476 Netfinity 3500 server Type 8644 Netfinity 5500 server Type 8660 Netfinity 7000 server Type 8651 Customers with a existing copy of ServerGuide can receive the latest version of ServerGuide by contacting the US ServerGuide Fulfillment Center PH# 1-800-426-7282, Option #4. WORKAROUND: Configure the System temporarily with less than 1GB RAM to run the ServerGuide "HardwareGuide" CD, then reinstall / configure the System RAM prior to running the SoftwareGuide (CD#2). DETAILS: The problem is specific to the "HardwareGuide" (CD#1) contained in Serverguide versions 4.0 thru 4.0.3 ONLY when the System is configured with 1GB RAM or greater. The companion "SoftwareGuide" (CD#2) is not affected. Systems configured with less than 1GB RAM are NOT affected. This problem has been fixed in ServerGuide 4.0.4 NOTE: The "HardwareGuide" contained in ServerGuide is version specific and may not work properly with a different version of ServerGuide. NOTE: ServerGuide version 4.0.4 is downward compatible with respect to hardware supported in previous versions 4.0 thru 4.0.3. Date: July 21, 1998
