H164433: A.S.M.A. MAY NOT BE DETECTED BY SERVER AFTER POWER OFF/ON SYMPTOM: The System intermittently exhibits one or both of the following symptoms upon applying power then powering-up the System: 1- The A.S.M.A. (Advanced System Management Adapter) does not communicate with the System as evident by system displaying the following message "No established Service Processor Connection". 2- The following error is displayed upon POST if you are using BIOS 16: "IBM Advanced System Management Adapter is not installed or configured" PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: - The System is any model Netfinity server 7000 Type 8651 properly configured with a Advanced Systems Management Adapter FRU p/n 12J4743 - The System Exhibits Symptom #1 - The System exhibits symptom #2 only when at System BIOS level 16. - System Diagnostics Fail on "Service Processor Test" - The Symptoms are intermittent with respect to removal of power supplied to the System. FIX: Recent ongoing testing at IBM has determined a limited number of the ASMA FRU p/n12J4743 may experience a minor reset issue during power-up of the System after loss of power supplied to the Server. If this reset issue presents itself in the field, follow the "Workaround Procedure" listed below. This issue is not known to present itself in the field to date, is very intermittent and does not impede Server or Data availability. The resulting effect of this issue is temporary loss of ASMA availability. WORKAROUND: 1- Power down the System, then power down System-attached Peripherals. 2- Remove all power Cords from the System, then re-attach them. 3- Power up peripherals and System.
