SYMPTOM: The Hot-Plug wizard may return the error "PCI Resources required by this device could not be allocated" when attempting to hot-add an adapter to a system with 4GB of memory. This failure ONLY occurs on hot add and will work O.K. on a hot replace because memory space was previously allocated for that slot. PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: - The system is a Netfinity 7000 M10, Type 8680, any Model. - The system has two (2) or more processors installed. - The system has 4GB of supported RAM installed. - The system is configured with Windows NT. - The system has the symptom described. FIX: There is not a permanent fix available at time of writing. This condition will remain until new Windows NT hotplug drivers are released. The new hotplug drivers will be released by Microsoft for Windows NT 4.0. The new hotplug Device Driver will also be added to Windows NT 5.0, when available. WORKAROUND: Prior to loading hotplug adapters, set memory at less than 4GB. Load adapters and then reset memory to 4GB.
