Disable Secure Chip INF and CAT files for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Version 5.0.48.2003 Installation Readme This INF file has been created to recognize the National Semiconductor/Winbond Electronics Corporation TPM device by its plug-and-play signature. This will fix the "Unknown Device" problem seen on systems with an integrated TPM device and which cannot use the full driver. It creates a node called "Motherboard Resources" on the "System" class. This package applies to the following systems configured with the Embedded Security Subsystem, sometimes referred to as POV: - ThinkCentre A51 (type 8424, 8425, 8428) - ThinkCentre A51p (type 8420, 8421, 8422, 8423, 8426, 8427) - ThinkCentre M51 (type 8095, 8096, 8097, 8141, 8142, 8143, 8144, 8145, 8146) - ThinkCentre S51 (type 8098, 8171, 8172, 8173) Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders. 2. Type pz2z33usa.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the pz2z33usa.exe icon. Read the license agreement. 4. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement. 5. Click Next. 6. Click "Unpack the files used to perform the installation to the location specified below, and don't remove these files after the setup is completed." 7. Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\PZ2Z33US. 8. Click Next. The necessary files will be extracted to your hard drive. 9. Click Finish. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Boot into Windows. If there is a "New Hardware Found" dialog, skip to step 3. 2. In Device Manager, right-click on any of the trees and scan for hardware changes. 3. In the "New Hardware Found" dialog, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). 4. Browse to the folder which contains the extracted INF and CAT files, which by default is C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\PZ2Z33US. 5. Click Next. 6. When the driver installation is complete click Finish. 7. Shut down and restart your system. At this point, the device is known and present in Device Manager as described above. Uninstalling ------------ 1. Perform a file search using Windows Explorer. Search for "a word or phrase within the file" of "notpm", and "look in" "C:\WINDOWS\inf". This may take several minutes. "oem##.inf" should be found. Perform another search for "a specific filename" of "oem##*", where ## is the number that was found previously, and "look in" "C:\WINDOWS". oem##.inf, oem##.pnf, and oem##.cat files should be found. Delete these files (including those found in the C:\WINDOWS\LastGood directory). 2. In Device Manager, after showing hidden devices, right- click and uninstall the "Motherboard Resources" device that has a manufacturer ID of "Winbond Electronics Corporation" in the "System" tree. 3. Shut down and restart your system. At this point, the device is again unknown, but Windows will remember that this device was in the "System" class and called "Motherboard Resources"; it will simply not know where to find the driver.
