SSID EEPROM update utility
for Broadcom 10/100/1000 (Gigabit) Ethernet
Installation README


This package updates the basic Gigabit Network Adapter EEPROM on the
following IBM systems:

- ThinkCentre A51 (type 8424, 8425)
- ThinkCentre M51 (type 8141, 8142, 8143, 8144, 8145, 8146)
- ThinkCentre S51 (type 8098, 8171, 8172, 8173)


State failure mode
------------------
The Operating System may go through redetection and reinstallation of
the network controller card and the driver for the NIC card if the
system board inside the machine is swapped. This is due to incorrect
configuration of SSID (Subsystem ID and Subsystem Vendor ID) registers
on a limited number of system boards. The Subsystem ID and Subsystem
Vendor ID can be reconfigured via EEPROM by running this SSID update
utility.

Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation.


Downloading the update
----------------------
1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the
   downloaded file, be sure to select a path that does not have a space
   in its name.


Extracting the update
---------------------
Installing this update involves creating a Boot flash diskette and
running the flash program from the diskette. Before you begin, have a
blank 1.44 MB diskette ready.

1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders.
2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive.
3. Type pz1t24a.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will
   locate the file you just downloaded.
4. Double-click the pz1t24a.exe icon.
5. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be extracted
   to the diskette.


Installing the update
---------------------
1.  Close all open applications.
2.  Leave the diskette in the A: drive, and shut down and restart the
    computer to start the flash program.
3.  The update process will start automatically. This utility will
    only update the flash image on the EEPROM only if the machine type 
    matches one of the machine types listed above.
4.  After update process displays “Flashing completed” remove the
    diskette from the drive.         
5.  Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart the system.
